We met Dan when he was fifteen. His mother Jennifer, almost blind and sick with AIDS lived with her three children in a hovel which was falling into bits and pieces. During the rainy season the family had to cover themselves with tarpaulins and place basins all over the floor to avoid to be flooded. All four survived sharing the food provided to the sick mother by the AIDS help programme. Byelo built a new house, paid for the children’s school fees and granted a micro-credit to Jennifer to have her start a road side home market as it is the habit in many African villages. We also made it possible to have Dan’s mother registered with a Braille course so to enable her to find a job in the blinds’ community.

Patrick is a tetraplegic boy who lives curled up in a bed, his body deformed by a progressive disease. His hut was completely destoyed by drunkards who had claimed the property for themselves. Now Patrick is the owner of a nice house for himself and his family.

Robinson’ s parents died when he was 14. He had to stop school in order to earn occasionally some money and provide food for his smaller brothers and sisters. When we met him in February 2011 we found him in deep despair. The owner of the land and of the miserable hut, which was Robinson’s and his brothers’ home since ever, had chased him simply out. We bought immediately a piece of land, gave him the means to built two huts, later a brick house for rent and now he is cultivating with great care his own land. Meanwhile he got married and is now the proud father of a son, named Rwotomiya (God has given him to us)

At the age of 2 years Geoffrey was found by the police who took him to St. Jude Orphanage. His parents died of AIDS, his clan refused to take care of him and he was abandoned in the bush. Geoffrey has always been a very vulnerable child. He was the ‘favourite son’ of Mamy Sveva, (Sveva de Bartolomeis, co-founder of Byelo) and she decided that Byelo had to buy a land for her son, which he should take over at the age of 18. This will be in 2019. Byelo is following him up step by step.

Pamela and Nancy have something in common. They are both orphans. Their parents were victims of HIV infection. Pamela was left alone with her elder brother who was 6. Nancy was only 7 when she lost both her parents. They were at risk to grow up as street children. Sister Dorina Tadiello of Comboni Samaritans made a plan to rescue both from the dangers of post war Gulu. Byelo bought two neighbouring plots of land and built two small houses, for both young girls to offer stability to two sufferings lives. We follow them up since years.Today both have a job. Nancy got married and has a beautiful healthy son.

During our visit to Uganda we witnessed the precarious conditions of Christine’s life and of her family. Christine is only 37 years old and has 10 children and one grandchild. Her husband is an old man. They had no land, no house and lived like nomads. Their food consisted mainly of raw potato peelings. Christine is today the owner of a land to be cultivated and a house to give a permanent shelter to her family. Three of her children are beneficiaries of our School Project.

Karpur is a very poor village situated in the district of Khandwa in the state of Madhya Pradesh. Villagers earn their living exclusively by farming and daily labour. The aim of this project was to make agriculture in Karpur eco friendly in the long run. The many poor peasants who are cultivating partners of the Mission Farm greatly benefit from it. The organic manure is now available to them without any cost and they are relieved from the burden of purchasing costly chemical fertilizers for every crop. The project mainly aims at demonstrating to the farmers the benefits of the organic fertilizer, push them to use it to their own economic advantage. We built twenty tank like structures. The rest is simply done by a natural process. Organic matter, such as the huge quantity of teak wood leaves available and specific worms will produce a very rich organic fertilizer.

The electrical mill has been installed in a village of a rural area far from other human settlements. Up to now the village women had to grind by hand millet and corn for their daily meal. As women are also in charge of collecting water and firewood, working in the fields, cooking and growing up the children, the newly installed mill is of great support to the women and to the community of the area. The project was realized in collaboration with Wend Barka Onlus

The well has been realized in the village of Nia, district of Arbolé, approximately 100 km north-east of the capital. The village lacks whatsoever may be considered infrastructural services. The women, responsible not only for domestic work, do no longer need to walk long distances in order to provide themselves with water. The association ‘Wend Barka Onlus’ was our main contact for the realization of the project.
