Projects:
Soon after Byelo was founded in 2004 during the civil war, its very first projects where realized at the Children’s Home. The buildings needed renovation and the management had to be structured anew. The late co-founder of Byelo Onlus, Sveva de Bartolomeis lived for long periods in the orphanage with the children to follow up personally our projects.
Our projects
Byelo built a group of 4 multi-family houses for disabled children and their families next to the Orphanage St. Jude and to the St. Jude Primary School. Each house consists of three rooms, two bathroom and a little courtyard with kitchen and showers. Each unit is called with the name of a flower, as requested by the Byelo sponsor.
Next to the St. Jude Children’s Home and to the Consolation Home we built in collaboration with another association the St. Jude Primary School, easy to reach for both, orphans and disabled children. It is a School of Excellency, with only 40 children attending each class, while the average in Uganda is of about 150 children per classroom. The school is also equipped with a kitchen, where the children’s daily meal is prepared.
For most of Ugandan children education remains a dream. Byelo School Project supports since 2005 more than 100 students, most of them orphans, starting from nursery school up to university level. School fees in Uganda are high and increase from level to level. The number of boys and girls asking for financial help to meet their school fees and ‘requirements’ is impressive. All children are followed up individually by our representatives and by ourselves during our missions in Uganda.
In Northern Uganda, which has suffered more than 20 years of civil war and where the rate of AIDS infections is dramatically high, the number of orphans is constantly increasing.
In collaboration with the NGO Comboni Samaritans of Gulu (CSG) Byelo is sustaining since 2010 the breadwinner children project , which includes more than hundred groups of orphans. Having lost both parents it is the eldest of the children who has to take over the responsibility of providing a living for the younger brothers and sisters
Byelo is committed to find solutions for extremely precarious situations and to sustain the healthy growth and formation of children left alone, without guidance, without roots. Among others we provide skill training, we buy land and we build houses for these children where they can start to write a new chapter of their life and build up their own future.
In collaboration with ‘Wend Barka Onlus’ Byelo built a school in one of the most desolated areas of Burkina Faso.
In 2012 Wend Barka Onlus developed the project and financed the building of a school in the village of Kambgo, one of the poorest areas of Burkina Faso.
Byelo supplied furniture and the necessary equipment to have the school immediately start operating.
